Merci Daniel pour cette incursion dans le domaine des broderies qui complètent ma visite de l'expo Schiaparelli. Hâte de t'entendre au musée de Cluny ! A très vite -

It is my understanding, that the original and spontaneous comment I posted here was inadvertently deleted from the site. In memory of my dear friend Josaine Fruman, I will do my very best to recapture both the content and spirit of the earlier post. Daniel has, with typical scholarly excellence and keen eye seen the genesis of the Lesage embroideries for Schiap in the needlework of (mostly) unknown needleworkers of the past. The rich vocabulary of stitches, the affinity for working with gold and silver in various ways, "plying with light" and nuanced silk threads, and from the Middle Ages rendering all with precision and feeling---that's what has moved me in the historic ecclesiastical works in the Fruman collection and in the textiles of Schiaparelli. Thank you Daniel for this extraordinary contribution to textile scholarship.-
